    I’m in love!

Posted by Jesus Martin on 15th May 2024

My very first full frame mirrorless camera and I’m absolutely in love with it! I’ve had the D3500 for 2 years and I was so stoked when I finally saved up to get this bad boy. It really takes my portrait photo shoots on to the next level. I use it with a Nikkor 85mm z lens and it’s fantastic!

    Great camera

My first entry to a full frame mirrorless camera. I am just starting to get a good solid grasp of its capabilities. My previous camera is also a Nikon D7100 and love that the menu and buttons are almost in the same layout making it much easier to start making photography

    My Nikon Z5

Posted by Lisa Wilson on 29th Apr 2024

This is everything I was looking for in a entry level mirrorless camera. This camera is lightweight compared to my D750 and menu is easy to navigate. The picture science from Nikon is awesome.

A great choice for an entry level of mirrorless professionals camera. 24mm lens kit is a good option. Quality and affordable camera from Nikon.

    First Nikon I've owned!

Posted by Kelsey Herrera on 27th Apr 2024

Let me start with the fact that I was heavily bias towards anything other than Canon. I had owned a 60d for 7 years and wanted to upgrade to the RP. However, there was a ton of mixed reviews and I wanted to love it but when I got my hands on it I just didn't care for the sizing. The z5 is still a small camera, but just fits on my hand without having to justify a battery grip and my pinky not falling off the side and being under the camera. The photos, in the small amount of time I've had it have come out well. I'm still learning all the stuff with this camera but it seems to be pretty easy. My only gripe with this, is the bundle. The lens is ok.. but not great. 24-50 is pretty useless especially with 50 being at f/6.3.. I would have paid an extra few to have a better kit lens. Luckily these are going for a good amount of change elsewhere so I will sell off this one and upgrade to a better glass. This is really where the RP almost sold me because the kit lenses came at a good price. Still all in all, its a great camera. However, I really should have just sprung for the z6 considering the lens it comes with and its tad bit of upgrades.

This camera truly exceeded my expectations. I spent weeks researching good cameras within a budget for a wide variety of things i knew i would want it for. From landscapes to wildlife to potraits to action shots of my dogs, this camera has truly opened a world of opportunities and has so many options yet is incredibly beginner friendly.

Amazing camera hobbled by bad autofocus

Posted by Michelle Thompson on 13th Apr 2024

Pros- Outstanding color rendition. Great in camera jpg, even better raw. 2 full sized SD slots! Can accept ENEL15 batteries that have been around for about 10 years. When the AF works properly, this camera produces excellent images (see cons). Cons- Nikon, despite having issued numerous firmware updates, still cannot get the auto focus working properly. Not even when you are using the camera outside with plenty of light. If you are taking a full length picture of a person in the shade on a sunny day the camera most of the time just won't find the person you are taking a photo of. This is in the auto af mode, with face and eye detection turned on. I exclusively take pictures of people (most are full length) and have only seen the eye detection work once (after 1000's of pictures). I compose the shot, the AF box appears on the face of the subject (is red), the AF box goes green, I take the photo, and when I get back to look at the image in PS I get -3 times out of 10- a back focused image. What good is having a camera with a AF system that is only good 70% of the time? Switching to single point focusing does improve the AF, but not having the face and eye detection can be a major inconvenience. Also bad (compared to DSLR cameras anyway) is the battery life on mirrorless. For events and weddings, you should have as many backup batteries as you are willing to carry with you - I would recommend at least 4 if shooting all day. This thing (and mirrorless in general) just eat batteries. I can't recommend this camera until Nikon can fix the autofocus. If they release another AF improvement firmware update I will test it and update this review as necessary.
