A new member of my Lightspeed family...

Posted by Christopher Winters on 22nd Jun 2024

As a pretty avid gamer that spends a lot of time hovering over a keyboard and mouse, I’m pretty picky about what I use in that regard. In the last 4-5 years, I landed solidly in the Corsair camp, and was (until recently) rocking a K70 Rapidfire keyboard along with iterations of their M65 mouse. Well-engineered stuff with a form and feel you get used to, and after time, need. I first dipped back into the Logitech pool a couple of years ago with their G502 Proteus Spectrum (wired), and immediately found a mouse that felt ‘right’ in my hand, with lightning fast response and an ergonomic feel that I just felt wedded to, buttons where I needed them, responsive and it just fit my palm right…I like it so much that I bought a second and put it in storage in case the form factor changed too quickly or it broke. Turns out that mouse became a legend, and didn’t change…it evolved into something spectacular- the Lightspeed G502 Wireless. I upgraded last year to that model, and went full-Monty with the Lightspeed charging mousepad, and there is not a chance I’m looking back with that type of premium feel and performance. Lightspeed is a game changer, the technology has addressed the fundamentals of latency and speed in a manner that just doesn’t beg any further conversation on wired connections. That being said- while the predicate was set with my mouse conversion process, and I believed my level of expectations would be met, I’m not going to lie…I loved my K70 keyboard. It has a linear switch that really is a sweet spot for me in an ever-growing mechanical keyboard enthusiast world where the clicky-er, the better. It was also a well-engineered keyboard, of high quality materials and with a premium feel. I was not as ready to move on, but….Logitech Lightspeed, so why not? Out of the box, the keyboard has a presence. Weird thing to write about something that strives to be more compact and untethered than normal- and I didn’t even glance at its G915 wired predecessor- but this keyboard combines polished looks and a sleek stance with some pretty undiminished features that stand out to me. It’s thin body, with milled aluminum finish up top and plastic underside is pretty heavy. Smaller does not mean lighter, and I actually like the additional heft. The thin body housing also really plays up the architecture of the elevated switches and low-profile keycaps- I chose linear switches as that is what I was migrated from, and that action is most pleasing to me after testing various switch types. I do feel that this is one area that Logitech could stand to lose on without improvement or lessening the proprietary design; my son owned a G910 Orion Spectrum board, and always was on the lookout for new or custom keycaps. Logitech had proprietary Romer-G switches that really made it hard to find compatible quality cap replacements. I fear with this unique design of low-profile caps sitting on Logitech switches that those options will not be available, or if they are- abundant. Corsair made a kit of available keycaps to replace common gaming keys (WASD, SHIFT/Control) that were different colors/textures, and that was a real neat feature you either got or could purchase aftermarket. As of now, I don’t see much of anything to replace broken keycaps, or to just swap out the set because I want to. Broadly, however, I can’t say enough about the general typing experience. Strokes are precise and as expected, and there is zero lag or latency issues- this may as well be wired. While the new TKL condensed layout took me a bit to get used to (I’m coming off a full keyboard with a wrist rest) and find my comfort with the new condensed typing real-estate, the layout is just as good as the overall design. There was no sacrifice on the layout of the base and function keys, the ESC has a welcome separation from both, and the added rubber buttons up top covering wired/Bluetooth/lighting options on the left and media functions/volume wheel on the right are in reach and at the same time small form-factor. Crazy that you can feel both ways. Rounding out the actual physical components, the keyboard comes with a braided USB connector that can affix to the wireless dongle to for a wireless experience, or you can connect directly to the back of the keyboard itself via micro-USB connection. This is the second area I can’t really say shines- the industry is moving towards unification in USB-C connectors for both power and data, it makes zero sense to use micro USB any longer, unless there is an engineering component that requires it that I am missing. Lighting was vibrant and I already had the Logitech G Hub installed from my mouse and mousepad purchase- the software immediately picked up and identified the TKL keyboard, and within seconds I was synched across three devices with my preferred LED experience. The G Hub software is pretty well laid out, even for someone like me that doesn’t get too deep in the weeds on customizing. You can customize your LED experience using either preset LED profiles, or you can create a key-by-key custom one from scratch. It also allows you to customize the profiles for individual games. Macros are also easily crafted and implemented, as the lack of M keys was necessary for the form factor. I’ve found the G hub software to be great, and so far it has no conflicts with my other LED programs (iCue and Asus motherboard programs). From an overall performance and expectation standpoint, the Logitech TKL keyboard absolutely kills it, Lightspeed is the real deal, and to date you will be hard pressed to get any level of similar performance while cord-cutting on an accessory level. I absolutely swore by Corsair 4 years ago, and didn’t expect a challenge from many peers in the category for my attention or dollars, but Logitech surprised me, twice. In less than a year. You want a high performance that rivals or beats wired experience, a precise engineered build that challenges the aesthetic, and a premium feel for your gaming dollars? Take the risk with this one, you definitely get what you pay for and like me, you probably won't look back.

    Excellent Gaming Keyboard

Posted by Mary Spears on 21st Jun 2024

Look and Feel Upon unboxing, you'll first notice the high quality look and feel of this keyboard immediately. The body is wrapped in a grey metal and they keys are plastic, yet extremely firm and solid. The included USB cable is cloth braided and also feels of high quality. They keyboard is clean and simple with only what is necessary for functionality and nothing more. The keyboard itself is on the smaller size due to it's lack of a numpad. I personally love numpads, but I also appreciate the closeness this keyboard can get to my mouse. For gaming, this is more important as "w, A, S, D" keys in my left hand feel closer to the mouse in my right hand and gives an overall better experience. They keypress feel is absolutely amazing. It is a nice balance between "clicky" but not overly obnoxious and smooth. They keys register immediately and have very little travel before the press is registered. This helps immensely when gaming as every fraction of a second matters, and can be the difference between a win and a loss. This keyboard has full RGB illumination and can be set to pulse, wave, rainbow, or static color. This is able to meet any custom build decor, lighting scheme, or style. Functionality This keyboard has plenty of features but none of them are for the sake of features. Everything is well thought out and makes logical sense (no pun intended, but Logitech seems to be bringing their name to the forefront here!). You have a standard QWERTY keyboard with number keys above and function keys. You have prtsc, scrlk, pause, home, ins, etc... off to the right and full sized arrow keys. The only thing missing is the redundant num pad given the number keys above. There is a volume scroll wheel above the prntsc, scrlk and pause keys. This is easy to reach and I've found adjusting volume to be a treat using this wheel. It is rubbery and grippy in feel and simply works. To the left of that is a mute button, forward, backwards, play and pause. The center has a battery indicator light that turns red when it is close to needing to charge and green then happy. To the left of that is lightspeed, which is Logitechs proprietary technology for enhancing wireless connectivity when using their included dongle. To the left of that is brigtness, game mode, bluetooth and lightspeed toggle. That's it. Clean and simple with only useful keys. The companion software which Logitech calls "G Hub" is both PC and Mac compatible, though it works much better on the PC. I found on the mac, I had to continually launch the app after sleep to trigger my preferred light setup, otherwise it would default back to the standard rainbow affect. It also obviously has a "Windows" key and no "CMD" key. It's certainly meant for a PC, but works on a mac with little issue. This software allows you to check battery life, map custom keys, change the lighting effect and enable game profiles. Game profiles are where it's at with this setup. You can illuminate ONLY the keys necessary for the specific game you are playing, and when changing the mapping in the game, it talks back to the software and changes your profile. Compatible games are even mapable from the G Hub software. Many games come pre-configured out of the box and ready to go with no tweaking or setting up. Counter-Strike GO for example is one such game. You can even disable the keys that are not needed so if you accidentally hit a key it won't disrupt your game. Battery life last about a solid two days between charging from my experience. Charge times take about 3 hours until fully charged between cycles. Wireless response is excellent, especially with the Lightspeed technology. I found there to be little to no noticeable lag between key presses, something I don't find often with wireless keyboards. When you do need to charge, simply plug in the included USB cable and the keyboard will operate off the wired charge. If you are in the market for a new gaming keyboard, do yourself a favor and highly consider this option. It works exceptionally well for gaming, but it also an absolute joy to simply type and work on throughout the day. I've been using it for both 9-5 work as an IT professional and gaming in the evenings. Both tasks have not made me want to switch back to my old keyboard even once. I've used it between my macbook pro and custom gaming rig and it has works great on both platforms. It also pairs nicely via my Surface Laptop 3's bluetooth without use of the dongle. This is an extraordinarily versatile keyboard to put it simply. Well done Logitech! Another fine product to add to your already amazing arsenal.

Needed to get a new keyboard after my previous one

Posted by Henry Howe on 16th Jun 2024

Needed to get a new keyboard after my previous one started double clicking and this one intrigued me quite a bit. I wanted to find a wireless tkl model that also had dedicated media buttons and this one fit that bill. I was initially a little hesitant due to the high price but decided to go with it anyways. I am very glad that I did, as it is the best keyboard I have ever used for sure. Now I have not used a huge variety of them, probably around 5-6 over the last 7 or so years, but I was still impressed at how much I enjoyed using it. Here's how I feel it fares in a few categories

    The price is valid!

This is the best keyboard I've ever owned! For the price, it should be! It's built incredible well, has great weight and feel, and the linear switches feel so smooth and are whisper quiet! The rgb looks so good and the media controls are a rubber type button which feels great. If you've ever owned a keyboard with a volume wheel, you know how useful and great they are and how much you miss it when its gone! The wheel is metal and just floats but doesn't input any more or less than you want. If you can afford it, get it!

    Great feel and profile

Posted by Keith Garcia on 11th Jun 2024

I typically do no write reviews, but I find that this keyboard deserves it. I am coming from a G Pro keyboard that seems to have only briefly been made. The linear switches feel the best to me and they bottom out smoothly with a little bit of a tap. This is not quiet, but certainly not loud. The lighting is really nice, however, like most other reviewers, I really do miss the shift keys being illuminated. Once you notice they are not then you really notice. The deck sits nice and low so I don't have to break my wrists while I type. As far as wireless functionality is concerned it works very well. The battery charges fast and lasts quite a long time, though I don't have any figures for that. While the cable is still just micro-usb, it does work to charge all devices in the logitech wireless G suite, such as the G935 and G502 Lightspeed. I highly recommend this keyboard, even though the price is well over what it should probably be.

Compact size without sacrificing any features

Posted by Megan Avila on 8th Jun 2024

I’m a huge fan of wireless keyboards. I tend to just prefer the look of a nice clean clutter-free set up with having too many cables to manage. When Logitech unveiled the G915 TKL I was hooked. Small footprint, clicky keys, and lightning customizations as is the big wired brother. It looks like the G915 TKL was going to meet all my needs to replace my old basic wireless keyboard. Design: Normally I don’t use words like good looking when describing a keyboard but the design language that Logitech uses for the G915 let’s just say minimal without going over the top. The brushed aluminum deck with a metal volume knob complimented by the soft rubber texture keys looks amazing next to your pc device. It’s not cheap but Logitech made sure you felt your money was well spent. There is some heft to it, not a cheap hollow feeling like my previous keyboard. It’s a very well designed keyboard without having any wasted space. I’m digging this sleek low profile design. If I had one complaint it would have to be the Micro USB charging instead of Type C. Why did Logitech feel the need to go that route on a device that costs a lot who knows. There really should be no reason in 2020 for a high-end device to still come out with Micro USB charging. Features: The G915 TKL does come in 3 flavors which are: Clicky, Tactical, and Linear. Differences between them come down to your preference of the audible click and tactile feedback. Clicky being the most audible and feedback, Tactical with a gentle bump and some tactile feedback. I went with the Linear option. The reason I went with this route is that I also utilized my keyboard for work and other productive stuff. The Clicky version for me would have been distracting during conference calls. Linear in my opinion still provides some subtle feedback and audible noise too so it’s not silent at all. It’s like typing on a normal keyboard but with slight feedback to it. If you prefer the tactile feedback I would suggest going with the other 2 options. For me, this was a good compromise of both worlds. Another standout feature for me was having the ability to connect via Bluetooth besides the lightspeed wireless dongle. I was able to utilize my keyboard with my iPad Pro 12.9 and Galaxy Tab S6 device via Bluetooth. For those situations, you’re not gaming there's no need to look for the wireless dongle. Logitech does provide storage space behind the keyboard for the wireless dongle to be stored. You also have the option to use it as a wired keyboard. It is not a gaming keyboard if it doesn’t include some RGB LED lighting. Logitech calls it Lightsync RGB which allows you to change the color of each key individually. According to the tech specs you have access to 16.8m color combinations. Keys are brightly lit for the most part (more on that later) and colorful too. Almost all the keys are lit except for the Lighspeed Logo volume knob. Downloading the G Hub gives you plenty of customization options. I probably spent at least almost an hour playing around with it. You have your default presets for effects like for example Fixed, Cyle, Color Wave, and Ripple. You can also adjust the rated speed down to the milliseconds and brightness levels. Freestyle allows you to come up with some nifty custom effects and colors. Last but not least is the animations. Some of the options you available are Contrastic, Lightning, Ocean, and Red White and Blue. Besides the animation, you can even adjust the Cycle of the colors down to the rated speed. It’s like the Burger King of LEDs have it your way lol. Logitech G Hub also allows you to customized the commands keys. If you prefer to use alt+tab for another use instead of switching between apps you can do that. There’s plenty of key combinations you can assign for other use instead. Macros are also supported here. There’s so much you can customize I could probably write a short novel about it. Last is the game mode that allows you to disable any of the keys you select when you set it in game mode. It’s useful if you keep accidentally hiting certain keys during your gaming marathons. So yeah Logitech allows you to adjust every aspect of this keyboard to your liking. Typing and Gaming Experience: Since this a low profile compact mechanical keyboard there was an adjustment period compared to the taller keys on my previous device. Not only that but since I was used to the full keyboard layout and not the tenkeyless layout I was also making more typing mistakes. After some usage and finally settling down to the new layout, my typing experience improved greatly. For the gaming aspect for the most part I was fine playing the only issues I had was getting used to the directional keys since I was used to resting my fingers on the numerical keypad. I did not notice any lag while playing wireless using the lightspeed dongle compared to my previous wired gaming keyboard. If your susceptible to lag make sure to use the lightspeed dongle. Overall after spending some time with it I was very satisfied with the gaming experience and productive experience too. Battery Life: If you have the bells and whistles turned battery life comes out to around 40hrs with a discharge rate around 36mA. Turned of the fancy LEDs lighting discharge rate drops down to just 1mA battery life getting a huge boost at around 1124 hours. So yeah that’s a huge difference. To help out and not leave you hanging dry Logitech does include some battery saving modes. Low Battery Mode activates at 15% or low. What this does is changes the animation to breathing red, fixed red, or just have the Logo breathing red. If you prefer just shut off the lighting to preserve battery life. Inactivity settings allow you to dim the brightness to 50% after 1min or up to 15mins. You also the ability to shut off all lights after 1min to up to 15mins. You still have the option to shut off battery saver mode. A full charge from 30% or below will take around 3-4 hours. Shortcomings: Besides the Micro USB charging is the lack of lighting for the shift keys aka alternate keys symbols. In a dim or dark environment, it’s hard to see those symbols. Even setting the LED color to white and full brightness I was still having a hard time seeing those alternate symbols. I understand at the end of the day it’s a gaming keyboard but still, at least use a brighter color shade on them so they can stand out without even any lighting. Overall: If you’re in the market for the jack of all trades wireless gaming keyboard you cannot go wrong with the G915 TKL. Just make sure to pick the right one for your key preference. For some not having the numerical keyboard could be a con. Logitech did an amazing job with bringing out a compact, slim mechanical keyboard without sacrificing functionality or features for the sake of style. I highly recommend the G915 TKL for your gaming needs and office work too.

my favorite flagship wireless TKL keyboard.

Posted by Ryan Aguilar on 5th Jun 2024

When the original G915 came out I loved it but really wanted the shorter length for ergonomics and gaming. This keyboard does just that! Low profile linear swtich option with no fancy macro keys and number pad. Also the wireless is very reliable and I've never had any problems with connecting/disconnecting while gaming. highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable wireless gaming keyboard.

    Quality Low Profile Keyboard

Posted by Reginald Chen on 24th May 2024

This keyboard so far is my favorite keyboard as I have tried many of the other brands such as HyperX and Steelseries which are some of the other competitors. It is much of a preference for everybody, but I enjoy the low profile keys compared to the regular mechanical keyboards. Typing with this is pleasant and the keys are quiet so that it isn't so loud especially when playing games. The wireless capability makes it so that my desk isn't cluttered with so many cables. The connection is surprisingly fast and so far in online gaming showed no latency or lag input. The RGB is just nice overall but that's pretty much every keyboard as of late. The Ghub makes it easier to customize your layouts compared to the others. Being able to move my keyboard around is pretty much my go-to feature and the overall quality feels very premium. I went with this over the regular one because its 10-keyless and never used the keypad as much. It also made more room for the mouse and I wouldn't have to have a wide playing stance. Some issues that I've encountered: When received the keyboard, some keys weren't fitted on properly and I assumed I received some keys that had tactile buttons. Hearing some reviews I was worried that if I took a key off they might break. I did pull them out to fix them and so far no harm done and are working properly. Another thing is that if there are objects in the way of the dongle, you may experience lag input.

This keyboard is for people who don't like that their switches making noise, quiet and feels good and is super responsive would recommend for anyone who don't like noise but still wants a good feeling keyboard that isn't made of plastic.
