    Awesome product

I love it. I use it a lot for my photos and personal information. It scans for antivirus about anything to make sure no virus when it will ask you if you want. Nice! I will order more later in the future. :)

Great piece of tech.ive used Seagate drives since 2000. I’ll always recommend this drive as they stand behind their product.

Works OK. Reformat for "File History" backups.

Posted by Jennifer Reyes on 4th Jun 2024

I believe I received an "open box" item because the drive was not recognized by windows when I connected it to my PC, nor were the "quick start" instructions in the box. A friend formatted the drive on a Linux box, then reformatted it on my PC, and it works well now. It turns out that this was a "blessing in disguise" because the drive as formatted by the factory cannot be used for windows "File History" backups. After setting it up, working well!

    Large Capacity but slow

Posted by Jeffrey Jackson on 25th May 2024

I was hopeful that this large drive 8 TB would provide storage for quite some time. I store lots of images on my external drives. I was really disappointed in the speed of this drive. I have a couple of folders that are very large with lots of images in them. It takes a minute or two for the drive to bring up the full list of all the files in the folder. I have another drive from Western Digital that accesses the same set of files 20 fold faster than this drive. Since this is a backup drive, it is tolerable, but if this were my main go to drive I would have had to return it.

(Mac user) Time Machine and Storage 8TB

Posted by Laura Miller on 24th May 2024

Took a little understanding of how everything worked with formatting. The application Disk Utility is what you want to have open so you can see your HDD and anything else connected to your mac. Also might have to select View in the top left of Disk Utility and click “show all”. Sometimes they wont show up on the screen if they’ve been pre-formatted with different settings from the supplier. In order to get best of both worlds from this desktop external drive I partioned one half of for time machine backups and the other for normal drag and drop storage of pics, videos and whatever else. In order to do this click the external drive and then click partition on the top of the application window. Set how much you want to partition and rename it and set formats. Important part is making sure the time machine half is formatted “Mac OS Extended” and the storage part is using “APFS”. Long story short i had a old 1tb mobile seagate drive that somehow already allowed me to time machine backup and drag and drop so I just reversed engineered the 8tb desktob one to be just like it! No more switching and unplugging! Hope this helps!

    Works well.

I have a number of this line of Seagate Expansion drives, dating back at least 5 years. They have always worked well for me. Previous models I have purchased had a built-in USB hub - which I never used. This one does not.
