A Solid Starter Espresso with Room for Improvement

Posted by Tina Burke on 26th Jun 2024

Philips 2200 is a European-designed super-automatic espresso machine with a lot to offer, but also with room for improvement. Starting with the positives, this machine delivers a consistently decent espresso and the 'LatteGo' feature is a standout, making milk-based drinks a breeze. However, there are a few drawbacks. First, the coffee portions are smaller than what you'd typically find in the United States. Second, the coffee temperature leaves something to be desired, often coming out less hot than expected. Additionally, the water reservoir could benefit from a larger capacity. Finally, be prepared for a bit of a wait when you first turn it on; the machine cleans itself for 5-10 seconds and flushes water before brewing. In conclusion, if you're new to the espresso world, the Philips 2200 is a solid starting point. However, for the seasoned coffee aficionado, you may find some of its features

this is just what we were looking for, you dont have to be a professional to have great espresso or coffee every morning. easy as add water, whole bean, and push some buttons and your good to go. have not used the frother yet but if its like the rest of this machine you wont have to worry.

Awesome and super convenient!! BE PATIENT ITS WORT

Posted by Brenda Rivera on 3rd Jun 2024

Received this as my big want for Christmas due to being tired of the manual work needed in your standard espresso Machine. When I 1st fired it up for some shots I was honestly disappointed but after some research I learned there is a break in that needs to take place. Ran a couple bags of beans through it for the 1st night with back to back double espresso shots. Next morning it started coming to life, as of now 01/05/24 it is making amazing shots to the point if I walk by it and look at it all I want is espresso because it taste so good!!! BTW my son and wife are hooked as well due to to the convenience and ease of use. For our nin*a coffee maker, it has officially been retired and I gave my mother in law my manual espresso machine. Really solid machine and I am pleased to say GOOD BYE to to the $5 to$7 coffee drinks from the shop!! If you get this please be patient and run it through the gauntlet with some cheap beans for break in and you will not regret it 100%!! Totally recommend cheers to some shots of some awesome espresso!!

Great product, just if they make the milk carrier more sturdy and tight to avoid leaking The coffee is very good though

    Great entry level super-automatic

Posted by Matthew Simpson on 31st May 2024

After 10 months I'm still quite satisfied with the Philips 2200 Espresso Machine with LatteGo. The convenience of a fully automatic/super automatic machine is a real time saver in the morning--it allows me to prepare my breakfast or lunch while the machine heats water, rinses/pre-heats the brew head, and dispenses coffee or prepares a cappuccino. For maintenance, the rinsing of the brew group once a week isn't too difficult--if the brew group doesn't rotate/move--then it can be a bit cumbersome to reset it to the right position so it can be placed back into the machine when dry. (not unique to this brand/model) I would have liked to see a "frothed milk" option to created milk foam on top of a hot chai tea or other drink. I did find in online forums this is done by starting the cappuccino cycle in the "pre-ground coffee" setting which will dispense frothed milk, pause, then discharge hot water from the brew head--you just pull your mug away and allow the hot water to drain into the drip tray. The water filter has a good lifespan--I got the warning light and had to replace it after about nine months of daily use. There are other maintenance products (descaling kits, lubricating grease, and coffee oil remover) from Philips which are relatively easy to use but the overall maintenance beyond rinsing the brew group is only needed once or twice a year. Aside from a program to froth milk, I would like to see this model improved by putting a metal (stainless steel or chrome) drip tray cover in-place--the plastic grid just has a cheap feel while appearing okay. The water tank will make about 4 large cups of coffee (with some water used for automatic rinses at start-up and shut-down) and the drip tray/grounds container will need to be emptied after about 6-8 cups are made. I would like to see more indicators or an LCD screen to explain what the machine needs/is doing in words. I've had to retrieve the manual to interpret the pattern of LED lights a couple times. Overall, it makes a nice consistent cup of freshly-ground coffee with a couple button presses and makes a cappuccino very easy with the LatteGo attachment. Probably the least fussy espresso machine you can buy.
