Very nice counter tech—with a minor flaw.
Overall—I’ve been a skeptic of the fancy electric toothbrushes for a very long time. There was a short period of time when I did want one but never did take that plunge. I just couldn’t justify the steep cost for them. The only type I did buy into was the spinning head toothbrushes that were relatively cheap compared to their premium counterparts. Going from an ordinary ($2-$3) brush to a sophisticated premium brush is a noticeable experience, however. The iO series 9 is a dentist in your pocket. It coaches you on the proper approach to brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash. It comes with a premium travel charge case, 4 brush heads, brush handle w/ display, and magnetic charging puck. Sends you reminders for brush head changes and tracks your historical hygiene. Tracks gum bleeding and records the data into the iOS health app. Includes a type of reordering system within the app that integrates with the Dash button service. However, with everything mentioned, it still has its downsides. Design—The overall presentation of this product most certainly makes this a worthy counter accessory. In my use case, it rests on the counter for a few hours after use until the handle completely air dries. What's left is the round puck like charging base. The physical display is very bright and colorful, as such that I believe you should clearly see it outside under sunlight. Features 7 different modes of operation from Whitening, Daily Clean, Sensitive, Sensitive+, Gum Care, Intense, and Tongue Clean. Between the brush head and collar of the handle is an LED that indicates proper or improper brushing technique. The same ring doubles as a charging indicator (which is actually a beautiful touch at night) that pulses white at roughly 5-second intervals. The collar on the handle is composed of a sturdy plastic sleeve containing a metal magnetic cylinder. When connected and powered, it pushes in and out of the shaft magnetizing the brush heads base and causing the brush head to move at an approx 20° angle. Performance—Cleaning is superb! On day one, I wasn't hitting all quadrants with the precision or pressure accuracy as I do now. It would go from green to white, and red as I wasn't hitting everything per the Oral-B app. The "dentist in your pocket" improved that greatly. The pressure guidance sensor in this is phenomenal. But, while I still don't believe it's 100% accurate, as I am certain that I'm hitting the inner or outer areas of my teeth, the app just doesn't register it. Even with the negative mark here, the level of clean you achieve with this is far superior from an ordinary brush. For better context, and as it is my own interpretation, as Oral-B doesn't showcase this on the product detail page. I get a more thorough foaming effect when using this brush with less paste over an ordinary brush. In addition, it causes more of a drooling effect during the brushing which I believe is caused by the vibrating effect from the brush. I know it isn't the paste as I use the same brand/type as I did before this brush. FULL DISCLOSURE, I am not, nor have I ever been a dentist, oral hygienist, or any medical care professional. Nor have I studied such a field at a higher education institute. I do plan on bringing this up to my dental professional on my next visit. For now, all I have are web sources that point to a positive. With all that said, this is a much messier brushing method. After each brushing, I always have a few stains on either the mirror or cell phone. Not to mention, unless you have your smartphone with you, the app won't register your brush session. I don't quite understand why cant the handle cache that information for the next connection with your smartphone. This would make it a 5-star review from me. Conclusion—With the exception of the connection issue and messy experience, this is a phenomenal brush that delivers an exceptional experience and superior clean—all packed into a beautiful package that's worth considering.

That dentist clean feeling
This is about as close to that clean feeling after the dentist I’ve had; without having just left the dentist. This puts my old not exactly cheap toothbrush to shame. I’ll let you decide about the value proposition of this toothbrush as for some it might be completely worth it and for others this will be filtered out before they even see it as a possibility so if you are reading this that means that you are considering this toothbrush and can make your own determination about the value of this product. I will say within three brushings this has changed how I brush, I am brushing for more than 30 seconds, I am brushing with less pressure, and brushing more often. I am little obsessed with technology so my phone is never far away… however my phone has also become my memory for the stuff I can never seem to remember like taking my vitamins, feeding the dog, and now brushing my teeth. Yes, I was a horrible person and wasn’t exactly great and brushing every night. I would say this toothbrush revolves around the app and technology to use it and that is what gives it a majority of its value. Setting up the toothbrush is super simple, and I did it on an android and then an iPhone just to see if there were any problems in either and both worked just as good. So the very basic feature is your daily coaching screen that has your last score of how good you did (for instance I got 94% coverage the third time, the first wasn’t so good even with the coaching during) When you hit brush now you’ll see a full circle of dots and the a partial circle and then another smaller full circle, those represent the outer, top, and inner of your teeth and this toothbrush can accurately sense where it is in your mouth through magic (really a whole lot of amazing math and programming) and slowly those dots will disappear as you cover that area. If you start pressing too hard the area that you are pressing on will blink red and tell you that you are using too much pressure. This by far has to be my most favorite feature and one that will make me buy another one of these toothbrushes because my wife thinks it is the most awesome feature ever. The next tab in the app is for all those people that love numbers and stats, it’s a pretty simple one that give your history for coverage, pressure, brush time, gum bleeding (you are prompted to manually enter that there was or wasn’t after each brushing), and a few other that you manually record like flossing. As far as I can tell there isn’t a way to download that into a CSV file but I don’t think that is really on the top of too many peoples list. If you want to see how much better you’ve gotten this is a handy and fun area to look through, If you lean more towards liking to just know by things like medals the next tab is for you; the app will give you a medal the first time you brush, for brushing at lunchtime, midnight, brushing your tongue, and a whole host of other ones that they could dream up… and somehow trying not to miss out actually kind of motivates me even if it is only in the app.. crazy how our minds work. There are also journeys available that change the toothbrush settings and give different directions to focus on different issues. These include; fresh breath, plaque fighter, whitening, gum health, and ortho care (braces). It will only allow you to have one journey at a time. It will also suggest different products that could help with your goal such as mouthwash, floss, and gum detoxify toothpaste for the plaque journey. I would call them advertisements but the recommendations aren’t links, there isn’t a link to amazon or anything like that it just has the picture, at first I thought this was annoying and then I thought about it for two seconds and realized if they did link I would probably dislike the app for having building in heavy handed advertisements and was happier with the decision they made to keep advertising out of the app. So these different journeys and such change the modes of the toothbrush but you can also go in and change the settings of the toothbrush as well, you can select different colors for the toothbrush to display, and select different modes directly which you can enable to be available directly on your toothbrush and take away the ones you don’t care about. The 7 modes are Daily clean, Tongue clean, sensitive, whiten, gum care, intense, and super sensitive. You can also change the order that these are in. So I’ve talked a lot about the app and what makes this toothbrush truly unique but no matter how good the app is (and it was well done) if the toothbrush itself isn’t nice to look there is a good chance you wont care about it. So now a few items on the physical side. The toothbrush itself is nice looking, if you are the type of person that likes to have stuff on your counter where it is useful then this is a nice one. The travel charger has a detachable plug with no power brick needed which is nice. As for the stand, it is heavy and wont flip over all the time because the power cord is a little twisted. I think the only thing I would like to see different is if the power cord was a little thinner and maybe and maybe had a short and long one or someplace to coil the spare cable. Speaking of disadvantages there is one more that I found, if you have TMJ, this may be an issue depending on how bad you have it. This toothbrush handle near the head could be slimmer and is just a hare on the uncomfortable side for someone with slight TMJ (far from the worst offender but not the best when it comes to this). Overall, I love this toothbrush and we will soon have two of these iO series as my wife does not like to share (for some strange reason) and it seems very much designed to be a one person toothbrush with the app and such. She is extremely jealous of my toothbrush (which seems to be a strange thing to be jealous of) and is saying she needs one now (which means she will have one soon). Pros: Nice looking Multiple modes for brushing that can be enabled or disabled The app (I feel like I need to write more here because this is the biggest pro and was well done) The ability to live track your brushing Achievement metals Travel charger Heavy charging stand (wireless charging to the toothbrush by the way) Customizable Light (useful if you have two identical brushes I a bathroom) Cons: A little bulky near the head Power cord to charging stand could use a little improvement

Oral- B iO Series 9
Great toothbrush with multiple functions. It makes your teeth feel as if you just left the dentist. With having braces, the circular motion of the brush assures me that I am getting in all of the crevices.

One word ….. .Awesome
I love this toothbrush. My last Oral-B has lasted 12 years. I actually would’ve lasted longer than that I just wanted to buy this new or updated model. I love the app because there’s so many newer options on it and it shows you which teeth you have brushed and if you spent enough time on each tooth to actually get it cleaned.

Oral B io Series 9
This is possibly one of the best toothbrushes I've ever used. I like the fact that you can also charge the toothbrush via a port conveniently integrated within the travel case.

Electric toothbrush
This toothbrush is incredible! The bristles were a bit tough at first but I just used it on sensitive mode until they broke in. Always leaves my teeth feeling amazing!

COVID-19 alternate to DENTISTS
COVID-19 alternate to DENTISTS I was not necessarily in the market for another electric toothbrush, but having now cancelled two dental cleanings this year due to Covid-19 concerns, I came across the opportunity to test the Oral-B iO series 9. The Smart AI features, and OLED screen instantly piqued my interest. First impressions, premium package opening experience, greeted by a colorful bold friendly introduction to the iO series 9 ships with charging case and 4 brush heads. Setting up the app was a breeze, particularly useful was the Amazon Dash Replenishment option for additional brush head supplies. Comparing the Philips SonicCare to the Oral-B iO 9, I have been accustomed to beeps every 30 seconds, with 4 quadrants (top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left) for a 2-minute complete brush cycle. Since the Oral-B iO 9 brush strongly advocates the use of the app, the graphic for the mouth is broken into 6 zones, 3 top, 3 bottom. The brush vibrates at 30 second intervals, so standard time is 3 minutes brush time. Keep in mind that you might not have achieve perfect white teeth on the graphic overlay, so it’s not uncommon for perfect 100% clean brushes to take closer to 4 minutes or more. Apple Health is a big plus for me. Part of the allure of a connected smart toothbrush is to keep track of # of times brushed, when, and average time. Using the app it records this. , This is where I believe this brushing model falls a tad flat. I found it difficult to invest 3-4 minute brushing 3-4 times a day. If I happen to be in the bathroom without my phone, on a busy day I’m unlikely to retrieve my phone before a quick brush. So instead of the toothbrush brains able to bluetooth seasons I brushed without the app (or later sync to the app), I couldn’t help but feel I’m leaving holes in my data, like when I don’t get credit for sleep tracking or a work out on Apple Watch. That nit pick aside, there's a LOT to love here. This brush definitely makes me focus MUCH MORE on my DENTAL HYGIENE. Even little touches like reminder checkboxes that result in additional accountability is a nice touch. Tongue cleaned, check Fossed, check Rinse, check Compared to a competing brand Electric Toothbrush this one far outshines it. Testing the brush heads, the circular Oral-B also outlasted the competition using similar # of brushes. ----- This model 9 comes in 3 finishes. It’s interesting to note Purple is only on the series 8 - Rose Quartz - White Alabaster - Black Onyx Though I was hoping for Black Onyx my review sample arrived a rather attractive White Alabaster. Ring colors - Red - Too hard - Green - Just right - White - too gentle 7 Smart Modes ———————— * Daily Clean+ * Sensitive * Whiten * Gum Care * Intense + * Super Sensitive + * Tongue clean The cleaning modes are intelligent, e.g. gum care uses a different pressure sensitivity, and super sensitive seems to re-calibrate for miniature micro vibrations. PROS ——— + interactive color display + immediate app response + magnetic charger base + Apple Health app integration + medal reward system (Peloton like) + approx 3 hour quick charge + base not required, travel case is all + Travel case charging indicator + battery life is excellent + full charge lasts a week + pressure sensitivity alert + 3d tracking nothing short of amazing + clean fresh breath feeling all-day CONS ——— -must use phone in bathroom, would prefer bluetooth brushing statistics to the app or post-pone sync -the magnetic base could be stronger, while secure (not kitten proof) -takes me 3 min to brush vs 2 min normally -price tag, cost prohibitive to outfit a family of 5 -unable to edit session data if I floss but forgot to check the box CONCLUSION ——————— The Oral-B iO series 9 is a mixed bag for me. The smart brush, AI features, and mouth mapping are innovative and forward thinking. However I couldn’t’ help but wish that all brush sessions were logged regardless if I used the App. I’m deducting ½ star for that, and ½ for the price, though I know OLED screens do not come cheap. But the Good (GREAT actually) definitely outweigh little nitpicks, and it could possibly be updated via firmware / app update. I've not had the fresh clean teeth feeling this great since my last Pre-COVID-19 dental cleaning. ORAL-B is onto something there, and this is just the beginning of the connected toothbrush revolution. I eagerly look forward to future surgical tools that use this technology, like tissue pressure sensitive scalpels, and the like. Solid recommendation

We absolutely love these new series 9 brushes! Every session leaves you feeling as clean as you would feel leaving the dentist!
