    Great electric toothbrush

Posted by Micheal Dougherty on 2nd Apr 2024

I got the new Oral-B iO series 7 electric toothbrush to replace a 18 year old Oral_B electric toothbrush that still works great. This new iO Series 7 electric toothbrush has 5 smart modes (speeds) where my old Oral-B had two, fast and slow. The smart mode speeds are selected by one of two buttons on the tooth brush. There is a small (about 3/8 inch x 3/4) inch display where you can view your choice of cleaning choices. The cleaning choices are Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care and Intense. The other button is to turn on/off the unit. I've been using the new Oral-B iO Series 7 for a little over a week now, and it does a way better job at cleaning my teeth and gums than my old Oral_B did. I think it's a combination of the brushing head and the speed. The speed on the daily clean is faster than the fast speed on my old Oral-B. And the new brushing heads for the iO Series 7 are softer than my older brushing heads from my old Oral-B unit. At the top of the unit, right under where the brushing head attaches, there is a translucent ring that lights up in three different colors to let you know if your putting too much pressure on your teeth, just right pressure, or not enough pressure. If the ring lights up red, too much pressure, white, not enough pressure and green, just right. While you can kind of look down to see what color the light it, it's just easier to view in a mirror. When the unit is recharging the light is whitish in color and pulses every 5 seconds or so until it's fully recharged. There is also an app that you can download for your phone, either Android or Apple and you can pair your iO Series 7 toothbrush to the app and it can tell you on how well you're doing brushing your teeth. The iO Series 7 connects via Bluetooth. I tried numerous times to pair the brushing unit with my phone, and I could not get it to pair up. So I can't review on how well the app works or what it does exactly. With the Oral-B iO Series 7 kit, you get a charging dock which measures 2 3/8 wide, by 1/2 inch high with the power cord measuring 4', so should you should be able to place it anywhere on your bathroom sink area as it won't take up any space. The brushing unit is held in place by a magnet built into the dock. You also get two brushing heads and a carrying case which will hold the brushing unit along with two brushing heads. No place to store the charging unit though. I don't know how long the built in battery would last until it runs out of power and needs to be fully recharged as I put it right back in the dock when I'm done brushing my teeth. As far as I know, all previous Oral-B electric toothbrushes used the same mounting system for the replacement brushing heads. The iO Series 7 uses a totally different mounting system and this means you can't use the older style replacement brushing heads on the new Oral-B iO Series 7 electric toothbrush. This Oral-B iO Series 7 electric toothbrush is a big improvement over my way older Oral-B electric toothbrush. Overall, I highly recommend purchasing the new Oral-B iO Series 7 electric toothbrush.

The Sweet Spot of the Oral-B "iO" Product Line

Posted by Heather Goodman on 1st Apr 2024

Bottom Line Up Front: ========================================================= The Oral-B toothbrush brand has always been one of the “go-to” hygiene options out on market for many years. Having used several of their “Smart” series toothbrushes, the iO Series 7 offers solid features and updates to their older product lines, while making it easier more effective for keeping your mouth clean. Styling & Functionality: ========================================================= I’ve said it before, and I’ll say again – I ALWAYS appreciate the sleek – “all business” look of the matte black exterior casings or coverings in ALL of my things. It is nice that Oral-B offers the option of “Onyx Black” or “White Alabaster” – but I think the Onyx model is subjectively styled “nicer” and blends in with my other person hygiene tools in my bathroom. The simple display on the front of the handle is basic – but very readable AND offers way more information than many of their older/previous models that I have used. Compared to my previous Oral-B Smart series 6000 (this unit that this iO 7 replaced) - the physical “handle” unit looks and feels like a quality piece of equipment just like before. I honestly think that this unit is going to last many… many … many years – just like their older models that I have used past. It was a nice touch upgrading the charging base to a wireless “charging nub/pad” type versus the older base with the plastic spike piece that fit into the underside of the handle unit. A down side to this design choice, is that it is notably easier to “knock it over” if you’re not careful, while it is on its charging base. The iO Series 7 -- 5 “ Smart” modes -- are more than enough for anyone to find the right setting to get that “whole mouth” clean feeling everyone like to brag about right after leaving the dentist… and while I appreciate the updated brush head design – I wouldn’t say that it as much of an improvement over some of their older models/designs – which is a testament as to how well the whole Oral-B line has cleaned over the years. I believe Oral-B is dead on when they say that the rounder shaped head and superior in reaching those harder to reach places, and really gets in between my teeth like nothing else (with the exception of Floss) – and I have yet to find any other toothbrush system that cleans as well as this iO 7 does. The buttons and lighting options on display all just “work” – and never feel like you need a master’s degree to operate your toothbrush. Interesting Observations: =================================================== - The included travel case is nicer than I anticipated. Compared to some of the cheaper “clam shell” styled ones that used to be included in the previous generations – this case for the iO7 feels noticeably better and like it will last A LOT longer – I travel quite a bit, so I am hard on the cases. - Don’t forget about the APP! Everything has an App these days, and this is no exception. Using your phones/device Bluetooth connection – you can visually see your brushing time, habits, and a lot of other details that can prove useful when trying to stick to a particular dental hygiene routine. - Oral-B gives you 2 of the new styled “Ultimate” brush heads in the box to start off with. Keep this in mind as you will/should be replacing the heads every 3-4 months – possibly sooner if you brush more frequently or have special hygiene needs. These newer styled heads are also “newer” to the market – so keep that in mind when shopping for replacement heads (which you can buy here at BestBuy.com) Closing thoughts: =================================================== I place a lot of value in products and things that work like they are “supposed to”. This is one of those products that delivers on that promise. It looks great, out performs its predecessors and competitors while not require an advanced dental degree to operate. Is this device the most cost effective out there? – not when compared to older Oral-B model that arguably clean almost/just as well for less than the retail asking price of this new iO 7. That being said – that really is a compliment of how well Oral-B as a whole put thoughtful and effective design choices into their products. I think the iO “Series 7” – is the new “Sweet Spot” of the entire "iO" line – essentially all of the performance and features you could ask for – with out having to pay for extra features and functions that you most likely won’t use, or that you may not need to keep you whole mouth feeling clean and healthy. 5 stars all the way!
