    Automatic kitchen miracle; little downsides

Posted by Lauren Hess on 13th Apr 2024

I have had the Foodi for almost a year now! My partner says I have a Foodi workaround for everything, I’ve used our normal range oven only a couple times since we moved this summer. Foodi is fairly idiotproof. The only problem I ever had was that I didn’t realize the gasket was not pushed in all the way when I first got it, and so it took about half an hour to figure out how to make rice, since the pressure lid would not register as closed if the gasket isn’t all the way pushed in. It looks all the way pushed in when it’s not. I’ve never been displeased that I got geek squad on it though. There’s a lot of Foodis refurbished available online so I was afraid of lots of defects but haven’t had much of any. The only complaint is that you’ll want to cook in non stick aluminum all the time! I hadn’t done so in over ten years and only got the Foodi after a breakup. It could have saved my ex and I’s relationship but we just had to hate on Teflon. There are ways to work around this though once you get more comfy with the machine. I place baking dishes inside inner pot, including cast iron, and heat-rated glass. I looked into whether you can buy a cast iron inner pot. It does not appear that a cast iron inner pot would be possible with this design, as it is relying on the aluminum to heat up fast and easy. You can buy stainless steel inner pot replacements—— all of them that I have seen have a layer of aluminum at the bottom of the pot, so it can heat up the way it is supposed to. The stainless steel is good enough for me, I’ve never been a fan of scrubbing it and it reminds me of my last relationship but this is the price you pay so that you don’t have to worry about DuPont shrapnel ultimately flaking into your food while it slowly and constantly death leeches industrial waste biproduct fumes. The included non stick inner pot I forgot if it actually has Teflon or if it’s just some kind of non stick coating, but the non stick coating does not have integrity, it started flaking in my inner pot after only a month or so. That is when I started using other dishes. It kind of creeps me out to think about using the inner pot plain and I’ve only done it a few times since, it’s not necessary really. I learned that, aluminum mini bake pans will heat up the fastest, and I use a stainless steel veg steamer basket for a grill which has a little arching handle over it for getting the thing out after air fryer or pressure or both. The sling accessory has been the most necessary, for putting underneath baking dishes to make it possible to get them out when they are hot. I think ninja should include another air fryer rack with the unit as you need to be able to utilize all the airspace if you are air frying for best results, as in you have to generally stand up the items, space them, etc. I also have a about 7 inch aluminum pizza crisper tray I use alot in the Foodi, it fits perfectly in the included rack and it is useful for items you want to brown or crisp. Mine is a circulon brand pan but I’m sure plenty of makers to choose from there. There are more and more Foodi accessories and recipie all the time. My only other complaint can be dealt with by getting the newer model. You do have to change out the pressure lid to the air fryer lid manually on this model. If you want to steam and then crisp, this is the one thing that Foodi does not automatically do. There is a model with one smart lid available now. The size is fine for me and my man. I would want the bigger model if we had any more people we were regularly cooking for. We lived with his father for short periods of time last year and it was adequately spacious with him added to the mix too, he wasn’t generally a regular Foodi patron but he loved the croissants! To conclude between this and the Miele vacuum, I probably would not have gotten a 2020 divorce if I had had these items. Live n learn, new man is much more excited by the Foodi anyway. So if you have a partner who thwarts the Foodi, lawyer up, hit the gym, and serve them whilst your Foodi is serving you! Also if they poo poo the Foodi ask them why they kept being in a relationship with you even after you [insert disappointment here]. Give the Foodi at least as much of a chance as you would give your human. The Foodi is much more loyal, predictable, hot, and useful…..heh. You’ll feel like a stupid American using such an automatic machine, but it sure beats the pressure cookers of yesterday which I was rightfully terrified of. You don’t even need to understand how the pressure works in the unit to be able to use the Foodi. If you are constantly having pressure problems it may be because you didn’t put the gasket on at all (it will close without it but can’t pressurize.) Or it maybe that you weren’t thoughtful about leaving vent open when you screw the pressure lid on, or always forget to close the vent after the pressure lid is snuggly placed and closed. I haven’t needed to use geek squad nor deal with the manufacturer
