    Great first laptop!

Posted by Chris Tucker on 25th Jun 2024

This is my first gaming laptop. Really fast. Display is nice and bright. I like the simple design. A lot of inputs. Need to stay plugged in when gaming on performance mode. If not plugged in, the battery will last around an hour. I haven't tested battery life on a balanced mode. Very satisfied otherwise.

Great computer would be better if as advertised

Posted by Stephanie Bowman on 13th Jun 2024

Great computer. Fast and easy to use,but not everything is as advertised. This screen does not have a refresh rate of 240hz and does not output 500 nits. This is misleading and did lead to some disappointment. The performance does help mitigate this somewhat.

Amazing gaming laptop, even with wrong display

Posted by Olivia Bailey on 29th May 2024

I've had this laptop for a bit over 3 months. The build quality and feel is premium, like most Lenovo higher tier products. The keyboard is my favorite on a laptop so far. The keys have a nice satisfying press to them. They are also backlit with a few color options and the classic wave pattern. The fan noise varies based on the games intensity. I find it's a bit louder on performance mode, but it keeps the laptop much cooler during intense sessions. Some say these fans scream, but they're on par with any other performance gaming laptops cooling system. I opened mine up and found there are Two M.2 (2280) slots. I purchased a Silicon Power 4TB drive and it works perfectly fine along side the included 1TB drive. There are two slots for Ram with two 16GB sticks at 5600mhz speed. I confirmed the speed in the bios during the first boot and after the latest bios update. The Ram is removable. The laptop is super fast and plays all my games at high frames on high or ultra settings depending on the game. I've tested games like Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing on, and Starfield. I tuned the settings on all of these games higher than what GeForce Experience recommended, and still maintained high frames. The only complaints I have, and the first is more on Best Buy, is the false advertising on the display specifications. The display that actually ships with the laptop is a 165hz, 300 nit brightness panel. Best Buy advertises this as a 240hz 500 nit display and this is misleading. The price would be a significantly less with the display you actually get. I feel Best Buy should credit anyone that purchased this laptop, at least a gift card for the inferior display to what is stated in the specifications. Although the display is incorrect, it still is a bright beautiful screen with rich colors. The high resolution and IPS panel gives it a super crisp image. The second issue, mine shipped with a defective motherboard. Luckily it was covered under Lenovo warranty and I was without it for only 3 weeks or so. This can happen to anyone and any brand. I was just unlucky. The laptop has worked fine since the repair and I've tested it hard. I gave this laptop a 5 star review, even with the false advertising on the display, because it's still a powerhouse that exceeds my gaming expectations. Also, this is a gaming laptop, don't expect good battery life. Even on internal GPU only mode. Mine is always plugged in, with battery conservation mode (keeps it at 80%), and set to dedicated GPU only mode for better performance. These settings are found in the Lenovo Vantage app.

Great performer, nicely spec'd for fair price.

For the price I paid (purchased open box - excellent condition) of $1500 total it is a steal for these specs in my opinion. The build quality feels very good, it is plastic but still feels high quality. It is fast and responsive which was my main thing in a laptop I wanted, I typically have 4 chrome windows open at a time with 10-15 tabs per window and still feels snappy. Plays pubg with high graphic settings at 100-150fps, the screen looks good, although not great. All my other pc's/systems have oleds so I am spoiled in that respect but this screen gets the job done and I am satisfied with it. My only real complaints so far (24 hours of using the laptop), is the keyboard, it is a bit too mushy feeling for my taste, but this is subjective of course, I would prefer a more crispy/tactile feel to the keyboard, but I am getting used to this one (writing this review on it). The other is the ability to change the RGB keyboard, there are only a few options you can cycle through, I would like to ability to change the keyboard to whichever color I prefer (white for me). If there is a way to do that I have not found it yet. I have not tested battery life as this will be used plugged in most of its life so battery life to me was not consideration when shopping for a new laptop. If you can get this laptop open box - like new condition like I did for ~1500-1600 it is a no brainer and even at retail price I still feel it is fairly priced and should be one to consider if you are in the market for a fairly high spec'd laptop.

My #1 fav laptop I've owned.

Posted by Michele Hood on 25th May 2024

This is my first high end Lenovo laptop and I must say I am in love with this laptop and I have only had it for less than a day as of typing this. The screen is nice and clear, easy on the eyes, speakers are perfect for me. Easy on the ears. Webcam is perfect enough to use on discord and when streaming with OBS. With any Lenovo laptop, the keyboard just feels so nice to type on. Game performance is solid. I tested several games from Yakuza 0 to Cyberpunk 2077 and man they ran amazing at high gfx settings. Physical feel of the laptop is solid. I love the sleek look of it. You could take it to work and people would think its a high end business laptop. Feels smooth as well. Trackpad is really comfortable to use. As with any Lenovo laptop. The fans SCREAM on this laptop when at full power. Very very LOUD. For me I don't mind at all. I game with a headset usually. When I game without a headset with the fans at full, it still doesn't bug me. My device has a very small stuck pixel towards the top middle of the screen (Photo blows out the pixel. Its not as bad as it look. Its very tiny.). I will be using - https://www.jscreenfix.com. Hopefully it is able to fix it. One major thing I will point out at the time of this review, is the listing for this laptop labels it as a Legion Pro 5i. It is not a 5i. Its a Pro 5. It does not have a dedicated Copilot button. 165hz non HDR screen. When buying it I thought it was the Pro 5i. The model # listed is 83DF000CUS. This confused me at first until I checked Lenovo's site - https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Legion/Legion_Pro_5_16IRX9?M=83DF000CUS. Besides the listing as of right now being a bit incorrect, I would still highly highly recommend this laptop.

Great laptop NOT 240 hz though

Posted by Peter Hansen on 21st May 2024

Nice power full gaming laptop. Battery life is what you might expect from something this powerful. If you are looking for a 240 Hz refresh rate though, this has the 160 Hz screen even though the specs say 240. Lenovo even states this in an answer to a question about the laptop on this page.

This is way way better than the Asus AMD laptop I purchased a year ago. Solidly built, very fast, sharp and clear graphics. Highly recommend it.
