Super fast, great gamer laptop!
Had an older Nitro that would take 10 minutes to warm up to the point where i could start using it just to get into the internet. It would take another 5 minutes to load my game and my game would lag while playing. By contrast, this Nitro is super fast! It is ready to go immediately upon startup and takes less than 30 seconds to load my game. My game also runs so much faster on this laptop. Negatives: the edge is sharp and this is a heavy, hot laptop. If you use this on your lap like I do, you'll want to put a barrier of some sort between you and the laptop that doesn't make it even hotter. I use a usb, lightweight laptop fan pad. The edge of the laptop has a sharp edge, so if you rest your hand on the edge while using the trackpad, you’ll feel it cutting into your hand. I use a glove style cushioned wrist rest to combat the discomfort. This is also a really heavy laptop, so moving it with one hand can be a struggle depending on how far you're lifting it. Even with these negatives, the speed, speakers, graphics, etc make this a worthwhile purchase imo. I kept my last laptop for 4+ years, and I expect this one will last even longer. It is my faborite splurge in years!

Great 17 inch gaming laptop
I bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago and noticed nobody had written a review. If you are an avid gaming enthusiast then my review will probably not be much help. What I can tell you is that I do play games but mostly racing games like Asphalt 9 and it runs very smootly. I have a gaming desktop with a Nvidia 3060 and 12GB of GPU ram and I cannot tell the difference between the two. Now for the rest of the laptop. The display is standard brightness (I believe 250 Nits) for a gaming laptop. One tip - if you go to the brightness settings under Display and uncheck the "Help improve battery by optimizing the content shown and brightness" it seems to brighten the screen a bit more. The keyboard color settings are awesome. There are 4 zones on the keyboard and each can be set to a different color plus there are other color variation settings and the key press is perfect as far as I am concerned. Key spacing is perfect as well which makes it easy to type on. I can't give you an exact figure but the laptop charges very quickly. The options to add an additional hard drive and upgrade the RAM with ease are also a nice and welcomed feature. I feel like a gaming laptop should come with 16gb of RAM but I understand the desire to keep the price affordable which is the case for a 17 inch gaming laptop with this CPU. Regarding the CPU, this CPU has 12 cores so don't let the i5 CPU throw you off. This laptop is very fast and the 12 core speed is noticeable. I also do not have figures on how long the battery lasts while gaming but can tell you that I have another 1500 dollar gaming laptop and it easily outlasts that 15 inch laptop. When I am not gaming and just web browsing and playing music I typically get between 5-6 hours of battery life which is amazing for a 17.3 inch display running at full brightness. The CPU speed, battery life and GPU are probably the best features of the laptop for the price. If I could have given it 4.5 stars I would have. Why not 5? I feel like the speakers could have been a bit louder for the size of the louder and could have had more bass. I typically listen to games and music with my headphones so not a big deal breaker. The other issue that brought it down to 4.5 stars is the weight. If you sit this on your lap for more than a couple of hours you are going to notice the weight. Also, if you plan to carry it around a lot. It weighs 6+ pounds and it is noticeable. The laptop does feel very solid though while keeping the thickness fairly thin for a gaming laptop. The top picks up fingerprints easily but again not a big deal as a damp cloth wipes those away immediately. Another item that I almost forgot to mention is the temp of the laptop. I played racing games for over an hour continuously and the laptop barely even got warm. I can't say the same for my other 1500 dollar gaming laptop playing the same games, it gets uncomfortably warm. I think Acer really hit a home run with the cooling process on this laptop. And if it does get warm you could always use the Nitro app and increase the fan speed if needed. The Nitro app is a great feature as it allows you to control the speed of the fans. As FYI, I have never heard the fans but can tell they are running if I put my fingers on the sides of the laptop. They do kick on when you run games but don't appear to kick on while web browsing or running standard apps. In summary, I am very impressed with the speed of the 12 core CPU, battery life, quality and coolness while keeping the price affordable. I hope this review helps. I highly recommend this laptop if you are looking for a large gaming laptop.

Great fast and reliable
Great laptop with great speed. The graphics card alone is worth the price I got it for. Only issue is the battery life sucks on it.

Super Fast, Great Frame Rates, Green on Benchmarks
I've owned early versions of the Acer Nitro 5 and this is a worthy upgrade. Acer have made some good design decisions out of the box. The best is rear mounting the power cable and HDMI adapters. Meaning they don't get in the way of any USB A ports. The USB C port is rear mounted, which is a shame but not a deal breaker. The decision to ship with 8GB of RAM may seem on the low side and like an odd choice, but given Acer does give you a 12th Gen i5, RTX 3050 and a Gen4 NVMe, there has to be trade offs somewhere and memory is easy to upgrade. The thing is, it's not that much of a trade off. I benchmarked the Acer Nitro out of the box and it scored all greens Gaming 62% Desktop 103% Workstation 65% But what was outstanding is the Samsung NVMe is getting sequential write speeds of 2,870 MB/S. That's amazing for a laptop and the benchmark results are 409%. These are the best results I have ever seen on a gaming laptop. The NVMe is blistering fast. Setup is the usual Windows 11 process, with a ton of updates out of the box. Acer is low on any bloatware and the inbuilt Acer apps (Nitrosense) provide you with custom fan controls and you can customize the RGBs. The RGBs are a big upgrade over old Acer models, now the Acer Nitro has FULL COLOR RGB, there are 4 zones and you can customize however you like. See my photos. So nice to have real RGB and not the red that Acer always was limited to before. Putting the Acer through its paces, on Overwatch I get 145fps on High, 105fps on Ultra. This is impressive for a laptop and while the fans do kick in, they're not excessively load and it doesn't feel like the laptop is straining. The 17" 144Hz screen is beautiful - I'm a fan of gaming laptops with big screens, even though you sacrifice portability games are just 100x better on a bigger screen. For those wondering, the power supply is 180W. Acer have also made the plug require a firm press "click" - something worth knowing as if you don't hear the click, it's not connected. I had a moment of panic when I first set this up because I couldn't work out why it wouldn't power on, it was because I had not properly connected the power cable. I know I did say that the 8Gb of RAM was enough but it's also the only real limitation of the Acer Nitro because the Hynix RAM mine shipped with was slow (46.8% benchmark) so while you will get great performance, you may want to plan for a RAM upgrade to get a little more power. There's no rush though, you can use the Acer Nitro 5 out of the box and be very happy as its a great gaming laptop. FYI. RAM Upgrade I did decide to upgrade the 8GB to 32GB RAM. Acer have changed how easy is is to access the upgrade slots - older Nitro's had an access panel, this newer Nitro requires you remove the whole backplate and there are foil shields over the RAM. I was able to do it, just know it's not as easy as it use to be and I do kind of miss that. Acer - if you read this, your easy access upgrade panels was one of the reasons I always loved your Nitro laptops. If you're interested in Benchmarks with 32GB RAM, it barely moved the needle. 32 GB / 8GB Gaming 67% / 62% Desktop 103% / 103% Workstation 69% / 65% So as you can see, was barely worth the RAM upgrade because the processor, graphics card, and NVMe are all amazing. Kudos to Acer for great results on 8GB of RAM.

A Great Big Gaming PC for Beginners
Acer - Nitro 5 17.3" Full HD IPS 144Hz Gaming Laptop- Intel Core i5-12500H- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050-512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD Goodness, this is large. I am typically a console gamer. With this 17" screen filling my field of view with my new favorite game, my gaming experience is better than ever. The hefty base means I’ll look for permanent locations to set up. The keyboard is slightly smaller than I expected, but with larger than normal track pad, which I appreciate. The keys themselves feel very sturdy and have a distinct white outline that really sets them apart, as well as an enhanced white outline around the direction arrows and ASWD keys that are typically used for game controls. WHAT’S INSIDE? 17.3" Full HD IPS 144Hz monitor from Acer NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 is a 2022 graphics processor that keeps cost down, drops power demands, but in a laptop at this price promises stunning performance which translates into higher frame rates, better looking game play, and maybe even some more challenging settings. Intel Core i5-12500H CPU launched in early 2022 provides mid-range processing performance range 512Gb PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. While only a modest size, it offers exceptionally fast read/writes that addresses the demands of gaming. [There are 2 M.2 slots so a second SSD can be added; there’s even a 2.5” bay for an HDD drive.] USB 3.2 standard with Gen1 and 2 support = 10Gbit/s transfer speeds + includes 1 USB Type C 3.2 Gen 2 + 1 USB 3.2 Gen1 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 (power-off charging) + 1 HDMI 2.1 Port with HDCP + Headphone / speaker / Line out jack + Ethernet (RJ-45 port) + Wi-Fi 6 enabled + DC-in Jack for AC adapter There are 2 slots for 32GB of DDR4 3200 Ram; 8GB of Ram is loaded in this configuration. NitroSense software allows you to configure lighting etc features to customize the look of this laptop. SETUP: Entertaining. As you turned the computer on, the keys begin to flicker, red beginning on the left and continuing across the board to the right as if the power is building. A very cool aesthetic feature. Once it is on it speaks to you about accessibility features should you require them. The screen is bright and vibrant, very easy to read and view. Select your language. The Acer checks for updates, lets you name your device and then restarts. Login to your Microsoft account and you’re given the option to use a previous account configuration or set up as a new device. You customize for your interests. I indicated that I would be using the Acer to play video games. I opted in for an Xbox Game Pass, so I can begin gaming right after setup. (Free trial for Game Pass is 1 month, which wasn’t initially obvious.). All this was pretty quickly accomplished. NitroSense APP: The onboard control panel app dubbed "NitroSense" allows for customizing your keyboard with either dynamic or static background lighting in a variety of colors and configurations. I have the option for 5 different colored zones! I can control brightness of the keys, and how long the backlight stays on. I can shift from quiet, default, or performance mode based on gaming, music, movies and more. Last but not least it shows you how the device is performing, from controllable fan speed, to CPU and GPU power output, temperature, and what percentage of work each section of the system is accounting for. This adds to usability and the fun of this Acer Nitro! PERFORMANCE: For a large computer, Acer did a nice job of keeping the keyboard compact and easy to navigate with a larger than normal trackpad. The buttons are very responsive and the white outline is a nice aesthetic. You do have to reach further forward than you typically would with a smaller device, but this beast is housing a larger set of hardware and fans to keep everything running in optimal condition for gaming purposes. I wish there were separate buttons for the volume and brightness controls; instead they are the secondary function of the arrow keys and are initially difficult to locate. Game mode, using Xbox Game Pass, leads to a long list of available games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was my first game and it’s big, beautiful, full of picturesque worlds, frenzied, intense, melee style combat, and free range acrobatic movements. Download time was 2-3 hours using my WiFI that doesn’t fully exploit my gigabit home internet service. Let the gaming commence! and I was up and running in seconds. Once the game got to the home menu you could hear the fans in the Acer pick up to keep the system cool. It was also here that I experienced the computer’s audio for the first time. I was disappointed. Even at max volume the fans overpowered the game’s audio. (Headphones are on order!) I also hadn’t learned about NitroSense yet. I had more control over sound than I realized. The Acer’s vibrant display and the bigger screen really brought this beautiful game to life. I played the game on and off for about 6 hours and the fans in the computer really let me know I was putting the system to work. Graphics continued to impress me, however there were a few instances where the game was a bit jittery or slow. Perhaps the processing system was trying to keep up with the requirements of such a robust and detailed environment? [I need to see if NitroSense can help here, also,] These incidents were few and far between. 95-99% of the time this system was able to keep up and supply a richly detailed, colorful, active and fun experience. For an improved gameplay experience I plugged in a mouse. The built-in track pad to pan your view in any game does not make for an optimal experience. Afterwards, I switched to my usual console controller (Power A enhanced wired), plugging it directly into the USB port. This made a world of difference. I was quite satisfied with how everything had turned out from my newbie perspective. RECOMMENDATION: This computer was a fun gaming computer and of course it provides a powerful general use computer. The laptop itself is very sturdy and offers a truly great viewing experience with its large dimensions. The display is stunning both for typical uses and during gameplay. The venting keeps everything looking cool and working cool. The graphics were excellent. Downsides? The i5 processor ma be a little slow to keep up with some of the larger more complicated games resulting in the slight screen lag mentioned above. Perhaps adding to the memory might help. I’m still discovering the impact of the NitroSense tools, but outboard sound augmentation may be necessary. Overall, I think this device is a great starter gaming PC at an affordable price. This is best geared toward newer PC gamers or those with less demanding needs. It’s unlikely to provide more experienced gamers with the power they need/want. I can recommend it for the right audience. I would have scored 4.5, but I’m OK with 5.

I Love It
This is my first gaming laptop, and so far I absolutely love it. It's sleek, fast, and has all of the features I need to make gaming an enjoyable experience. The graphics are crisp and the sound is top-notch, giving me an immersive gaming experience. I'm able to play games with ease and have had no issues so far. I'm so pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming laptop. This laptop has plenty of storage space for all my gaming needs, as well as for everyday tasks like browsing the web, streaming movies, and working on my classes. The laptop runs quickly and smoothly, and I never experience lag or slowdowns. The design is sleek and modern, and the battery life is more than enough to last me through a full day of gaming or classes. I'm so glad I decided to purchase this laptop and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming laptop with enough room for everyday tasks.

Fast performance, with a mega sized screen
This computer is a beauty to unbox and looks absolutely grand. The large 17.3" screen on this laptop is a distinctive presence with 1080p full HD and 144Hz refresh rate. The vital hardware items you get in this laptop are all sufficient and capable to last you for a long time for gaming or other purposes. You'll be getting a powerhouse of an Intel 12th generation Core i5 with 12 core, a solid state drive with 512gb storage capacity, 8gb of DDR4 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, and it all runs on Windows 11. So far I have been running this laptop for a few days for various games and productivity sessions. I have not seen this laptop slow down at all. I am impressed with how well it maintains its performance and keeps it chilled with dual fan cooling, air intakes on the top and bottom, along with quad exhaust port exhaust. The fans do generate a lot of noise when gaming and pushing the laptop to its limits, but that's what it's meant to do. Impressive machine to not slow down or cause any hiccups while in the middle of a battle during my PC gaming. The Intel Core i5 allows for various multitasking to occur and doesn't skip a beat in my opinion. Great laptop for PC gaming, but also video/photo editing, streaming, and browsing. A laptop that can be multipurpose for office worker and PC gamer lifestyles. With the NVIDIA GeForce I feel as if the graphics and picture quality are unphased by the action in various first person shooter games that I'm playing. The DTS:X Ultra speakers sound fantastic and help to provide accurate feedback during gaming with or without my headphones on. As for connecting to an internet connection, that's taken care of by the Killer Ethernet E2600 and Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650. This laptop is not the most ideal for portability purposes, as it weighs in at about 6.61 pounds. There are a decent number of ports with 1 HDMI port on the rear, 1 Thunderbolt 4 port on the rear, 3 USB-C ports, 1 Ethernet RJ-45 port, and a headset 3.5mm port. The RGB keyboard allows for 4 zones and you can dedicate various colors and lighting with the NitroSense Key. The WASD and arrow keys are also easily identifiable and feel natural at your fingertips. The full size keyboard and number pad are useful for my needs and productivity throughout my various work day tasks and gaming. Overall this computer is fast and doesn't bat an eye at what I'm throwing its way. The laptop continues to be very responsive and quick. Gaming on this has been a delight as the 17" screen is fast and doesn't lag whatsoever. Clarity and smooth scaling while gaming to multiple games has been fantastic. Acer Nitro 5 has impressed me immensely with its aesthetic beauty and internals. This is a laptop that I can use for work, school, gaming. It's a powerhouse laptop with powerful hardware which should last me for years. PRO: Large screen display Fast hardware and performance Aesthetic looks CON: Wished for a larger 16gb of RAM preinstalled

Great laptop for casual gamers
Very nice, runs Minecraft and Fortnite well. I got BSL shaders with Mizuno’s 16 Craft texture pack for Minecraft and everything looks beautiful and the frame rate is still 30-60. Battery life isn’t amazing, but I don’t mind keeping it plugged in while gaming anyway.
